Featured New Releases

Fun. – Some Nights

In what is already one of the biggest surprises of the year, Fun. has catapulted into notoriety through a series of fortunate events, including a cover of “We Are Young” done on a recent episode of Glee and major placement in a car commercial. These events don’t always lead to fame, but the electricity of the song and the whole album are undeniable. The melting pot of members originally from The Format, Steel Train and Anathallo provide a vast background and creates theatrical romp through different genres, themes and yes, even auto-tune. All eyes are on Fun these next few months as the possible Foster the People-esque indie “dark horse” in 2012.

Tyga – Careless World: Rise of the Last King

The latest Young Money Cash Money export jumped from Pete Wentz’s dance-y Decaydance label to one of the most iconic hip-hop labels in music. Four singles deep at release, the buzz is high after the third single, “Rack City” reached platinum after originally a mix-tape cut that almost didn’t make onto the album. Tyga enlisted the best of the best to join, including Nicki Minaj, Pharrell, Big Sean and Chris Brown and more to help chart this “king” to hip hop royalty.

Sleigh Bells – Reign of Terror

In their last album, Treats, Sleigh Bells’ Derek Miller, a producer, wrote the majority of the songs without the influence of a much more pop-seasonsed Alison Krauss. The noisy aesthetic of their first record was quickly polished by Krauss on Reign of Terror, providing more structure and attainability. With the buzz of the first album under their belt, they were able to hit the ground running on promotion, including major iTunes push and last weekend’s performance on Saturday Night Live.
