Featured New Releases

Dot da Genius has been side by side with Kid Cudi for several years, producing his breakout single, “Day ‘n’ Nite” and the hit albums that followed. But don’t expect to hear anything like, “Day ‘n’ Nite,” ; this project, named after a Black Sabbath song, is a heavy, noisy rock album. The first single, “Brake,” is brooding and Pink Floyd-esque, with the same sort of dirty guitar sound laced throughout the rest of the tracks. The duo heads to Europe in April, with US dates to be announced soon.

Jason Mraz – Live is Four Letter Word

In a unique take on the “pre-release EP,” Jason Mraz showcases what his fans have known for a while – that his live performances are unmatched. Featuring brand new songs off of his upcoming album, Love is a Four Letter World, he extends some of them famous banter, including a shout out to various neighborhoods in his hometown of San Diego, where the show was recorded. He gives great detail during each of the tracks for a truly personal introduction to what is sure to be a big album later this Spring.

Anders Parker, Jay Farrar, Will Johnson and Yim Yames – New Multitudes

The 100 year anniversary of Woody Guthrie’s birth, and in turn the birth of the American folk scene, is celebrated by a handful of today’s notable singer/songwriters with, New Multitudes. The four musicians scoured through volumes of Guthrie’s preserved notebooks and assorted bits of paper, assembling choice bits of prose and coalescing them into the 23 tracks available on the deluxe version of the album. It’s a subdued affair leaning more toward Farrar’s Son Volt or even Will Johnson’s Centro-matic than Jim James’, (aka Yim Yames’) My Morning Jacket. Give James his due though, once again he has chosen excellent bedfellows for a side project following 2009’s exceptional, Monsters of Folk.
