The young brothers have made a similar impression on the rest of the industry, drawing critical acclaim and even catapulting “Latch” collaborator Sam Smith to notoriety.

ZZWard_Blog

ZZ Ward has made a strong impression on the music scene throughout her career. Her style of “dirty shine” blues breaks the mold of what you might expect from the 27-year-old singer/songwriter. It’s a sound that has found favor across genres, all the way to “Cryin’ Wolf” collaborator Kendrick Lamar. That song is on her 2012 debut album, Til the Casket Drops, which earned her slots on late night TV and use on shows like Pretty Little Liars.

Her “Last Love Tour” wraps up its western leg with her Friday set at both weekends of Coachella Valley Arts & Music Festival. She then picks up at the end of the month in Tennessee supporting Eric Clapton, stopping later at Bonnaroo and Summerfest, among others.

Of the tracks she sent for her artist playlist, ZZ describes them as “songs for when that certain someone has done you wrong,” kicking off perfectly with her own, “Last Love Song.” Check out the rest below.

ACMsAcademy of Country Music Awards 2014 Nominees

Las Vegas will raise a little more hell than usual in April thanks to the arrival of the Academy of Country Music Awards on April 6th. This year’s nominees range from Miranda Lambert’s fiery heartbreak to Eric Church’s neo-classic rock.

1987Rewind1987 Rewind

A banner year for music, 1987 saw U2 and George Michael blowing up to Michael Jackson-esque proportion. Post-punk stalwarts New Order burst onto the mainstream, along with fellow former outsiders R.E.M. and Suzanne Vega while indie favorites The Smiths went out on a high note. Prince continued a near perfect decade run with Sign ‘O’ the Times and it looked like he had a successor in the eccentric soul-man Terence Trent D’Arby. Likewise, the sky seemed to be the limit for Rick Astley and Samantha Fox.
