We are kicking off our next On the Rise artist for January, the indie buzz boys, Local Natives! Listen to their Local Natives: Artist Picks Premium Channel (or, “The Most Beautiful Songs I’ve Ever Heard” as curated by guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Kelcey Ayer) now on the Music Unlimited service.

Local Natives exploded onto the indie scene in 2009 with the release of their debut album, Gorilla Manor on Frenchkiss Records. Riding the wave of heavy harmonies and tempered, swirling instrumentals, the band stuck out through incredible melodies and a non-stop touring schedule and a critically acclaimed live show.

After several years of writing and recording, they released their sophomore album, Hummingbird in January. They will be supporting the new release with an extensive worldwide tour through May, including a stop at both weekends of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.

We kick off 2013 with our next On the Rise artist for January, NYC’s A$AP Rocky. His debut album, Long.Live.A$AP, hits the Music Unlimited service today, which has everyone from XXL Magazine to USA Today to Pitchfork singing his praises.

Now, you can hear his On the Rise: A$AP Rocky Artist Picks Channel on the Music Unlimited service, featuring his hand-picked influences and tracks from the debut album, including the Drake-laced “F**Kin’ Problems,” and a longtime Music Unlimited chart-topper, “Goldie.” Keep an eye out for more about A$AP Rocky in the coming weeks and hear for yourself why he’s “on the rise!”

The Music Unlimited service continues our monthly artist spotlight, On the Rise, featuring up-and-comers poised to make huge waves. This month, we shine the spotlight on Paloma Faith, a highly successful British export making her debut in the US with the album, Fall to Grace.  Hear her On the Rise: Paloma Faith Artist Picks Channel in the premium channels section of the Music Unlimited service.

As both a singer and actress, the music, creative direction, fashion and live performances of Paloma Faith are rich in thematic elements. Enlisting the help of producers Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran, One Direction) and Nellee Hooper (Madonna, Gwen Stefani,) her jazz influence and bombastic vocals put her on par with soulful singers like Amy Winehouse and Leona Lewis. Furthermore, she’s been everywhere: from Jay Leno to Letterman to The Today Show and as a VEVO Lift artist. Finally, it was announced today that she will be performing on VH1 Divas this Sunday (9/8 central), alongside Kelly Clarkson, Natasha Bedingfield, Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks and more.

Paloma’s Artist Picks also showcase her pop and alternative edge, which include hand-selected choices such as Prince, Outkast, Alabama Shakes & Woodkid. Check out her video for “Picking Up the Pieces,” below and keep an eye out for more on this artist over the next month!

Our monthly series of developing artists, On the Rise, continues with one of music’s most promising new rappers, Kendrick Lamar. His major label debut, good kid, M.A.D.D. city skyrocketed him to the top of the Music Unlimited charts after its release.

This whole month, we will feature his Kendrick Lamar – Artist Picks Channel, which can be found in the premium channel section. Kendrick has chosen songs from his all-time favorite albums, including tracks from Jay-Z to Ice Cube, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G. and more. Of course, the channel also features his own hits, including “Swimming Pools (Drank)” and “The Recipe (ft. Dr. Dre)”

Kendrick Lamar follows in a long line of west coast rappers who have carved a line of legendary proportions in the game. That’s quite a bit of pressure for the 25-year-old, but luckily he has a little help from his friends by way of Pharrell and Just Blaze among others on production. His songs are laced with allusions to his upbringing in Los Angeles and reflective of an artist with easily 10 more years of experience than Lamar. Believe the hype – this good kid is going places.

We’ll have more about Kendrick Lamar in the coming days. For now, check out his channel and learn why he’s “On the Rise!”

The Music Unlimited service is excited to kick off our new monthly spotlight, On the Rise, featuring up-and-coming artists who are making huge waves. Our October pick, Cher Lloyd, is one such artist that has blown us away with her massive summer smash “Want U Back” and her debut album, Sticks & Stones, which hit the service last week. All this month you can enjoy her Cher Lloyd – Aritst Picks Channel which can be found in the premium channels section. Her list includes some awesome tracks, including Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake & Eve.

Cher Lloyd created a stir on the 7th season of the UK version of The X Factor, finishing in 4th place. The experience worked in her favor though, as she was later signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco Music label and performed alongside other contestants on the following tour in 2011. Lloyd later tapped Lady Gaga’s producer to work on her debut album, which was released in the UK and has now hit the US through LA Reid’s Epic Records. Her influences are diverse (which you can hear in her Artist Picks Channel) as are the guest performances on the album, including Mike Posner and Carolina Liar. She has sold over a million singles and is only getting started!

We will have a lot more about Cher in the next few days. Discover what all the buzz is about and hear why she’s “on the rise!”
