We spent last weekend at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California with three days of music, sunshine and lots of running around to catch sets all across the Empire Polo Field. We’re only human, but tried to see as many artists as we could while filing daily recaps of what we were watching and listening to:
To help those who couldn’t make it get a taste of what happened this past weekend, below are some of our favorite performances thanks to Coachella’s YouTube streaming of the sets. Watch below and click the titles to add them to your playlists!
Sony Entertainment Network is counting down the days until the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, which kicks off this weekend in Indio, CA. Our premium channel dedicated to the fest has been in constant rotation as we gear up for the surprises that await. (Tupac hologram, anyone?) The surprise of set times is now over, as the official schedule was released last night. There are over 100 bands and only so many hours in the day, so several overlap with each other, forcing fans to make some tough decisions.
Today’s Video Round-Up collects some of the bigger conflicts and you can decide, based on these live videos, who you’d rather see.
Monday kicked off the month with a day dedicated to not trusting anything on the internet, April Fools. Chances are you fell for at least one fake pregnancy/engagement/break-up and the various pranks from companies, including Sony’s Animilia: TechForPets line.
Don’t feel silly, we all get caught in the joke sometimes. For that, we’ve created a Video Round-Up of songs for fools, kicking off with a band that really, (seriously) announced a new tour today, The Rolling Stones.
Just as we were winding down from SXSW and getting ready for Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival, rumors have begun swirling about another one of the biggest musical gatherings: Lollapalooza. A short list of rumored headlining artists has leaked, many of which aren’t too surprising, but still a solid line-up if it turns out to be true.
For today’s Video Round-Up, we’ve gathered these rumors and collected some great live videos from the bands we’ll hopefully be seeing in Chicago this August. Watch the videos and listen to the songs on the Music Unlimited service.
Mumford & Sons – “Little Lion Man” (Live in Denver)
The Killers – “Human” (Live on Letterman)
Vampire Weekend – “White Sky” (Live on QTV)
The National – “Slow Show” (Live in Brooklyn)
Phoenix – “1901” (Live in Paris)
The Postal Service – Full Performance (Live on KEXP)
We are counting down the hours until our Music Unlimited Presents Showcase at SXSW 2013. We’ll be taking over Hangar Lounge starting at 7:30 PM CT, featuring performances from some of the most buzz-worthy new artists on the scene.
We’ll be updating leading up to and from the event, but first, get a sneak peek in our Video Round-Up, including Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era freestyle, KimberlyNichole covering The White Stripes and an interview with Watch the Duck (who actually has a duck in the group) on BET’s 106 & Park.
Yesterday, we launched the Artist Rewind: Jimi Hendrix Channel, celebrating the release of a full album of new material, People, Hell & Angelswith a compilation of classic hits. Hendrix had been working on the tracks for following what was to be his last album, Electric Ladyland, before his death in 1970.
The celebration of Jimi Hendrix has been continuous throughout the decades as musicologists have explored the themes, ties and evolution of his songs. Today’s video round-up features some fascinating “behind the scenes” analyses by audio engineer Eddie Kramer. Watch below and hear more in the channel on the Music Unlimited service.
This week, we launched the Tegan & Sara Artist Picks Channel on the Music Unlimited service, featuring songs chosen by the Canadian sisters and including tracks off their new album, Heartthrob. One of the biggest reasons for their rise to success is their live prowess, playing everything from acoustic to full band to cover songs. Today, we round-up videos from the duo, including a performance of their hit single “Closer” on Jimmy Kimmel Live and a Cyndi Lauper cover (which they included in their Artist Picks Channel).
In our Black History Month Premium Channel, we highlighted a variety of eras and genres that have been defined by exceptional artists. This includes legends like Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder, but we also made sure to include “the new class” of musicians topping the charts.
Today’s Video-Round up gathers live performances from Trey Songz, A$AP Rocky, Solange, Miguel and more. Hear these songs and the rest in the premium channels section of the Music Unlimited service.
Our latest On the Rise artists, Local Natives, are no strangers to the road. These California boys have clocked many miles supporting their two albums Gorilla Manor and Hummingbird and have a lot of great live videos to show for it.
Today’s Video-Round up showcases why this band has become so well known for their live set, including radio sessions, a live performance on the streets of Paris and their cover of Talking Heads, sung while hanging from the rafters of a barn in Iowa.
