alien_16x9

“In space no one can hear you scream.”

With that simple statement Alien introduced a generation to a universe of face huggers and other things that terrified not only the characters on screen but also audiences everywhere.

The story was simple: A crew of researchers on their way back to Earth stop to investigate a distress call coming from a planet near them. But what they find is a perfect killing machine, an alien that incubates in a human host and then goes on a killing spree. Only the tenacity and resourcefulness of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) ends the threat from spreading to Earth.

After the first installment was such a hit a sequel was inevitable. So Aliens took Ripley and a group of Marines to the remnants of a human colony that has been ravaged by the parasitic aliens. The movie was a big shift from the original, featuring more overt action where the first was more a dramatic fright fest but was even more successful than the first movie.

Ripley’s story would continue with both Alien3, which introduced audiences to first-time director David Fincher, and Alien: Resurrection, which finished the story 200 years after the events of the third movie.

All four movies are available on PlayStation Store now as Special Editions with Bonus Features. So even if you’ve seen the movies you’ll want to check these out and find out even more.

And now the story continues in the new game Alien: Isolation. Set 15 years after the first movie (meaning it also takes place before Aliens) it features Ripley’s daughter Amanda, who has set out to find out what happened to her mother. The game features the same sort of thrills and chills as the movies as players navigate Amanda through her struggle to not just find out the truth but also simply survive.

If you’re enjoying the game then you’ll also want to check out the Alien Isolation: Friday Night Gamers playlist on Music Unlimited. Featuring tracks by Lana Del Rey, Soft Moon and a host of others, this is the perfect soundtrack for your gaming.

As always, Sony Entertainment Network is your go-to destination for the best in games, movies, TV shows and music. Where else can you get all this Alien goodness in one place without leaving home?
