Until September 30th, the Music Unlimited service is giving you and a friend a chance to win a trip to Pitchfork Music Festival Paris, featuring a who’s who of critically acclaimed artists like Hot Chip, The Knife, Yo La Tengo, Ariel Pink & more, curated by the influential music site. Learn more and enter now here.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting artists playing the festival to get you excited about the amazing talent that will be there. You can hear tracks from many of them in our Pitchfork Music Festival Paris Playlist, now available on the Music Unlimited web player.
The first is Bosie, Idaho’s Youth Lagoon, the brainchild of 24-year-old Trevor Powers. Signed to Fat Possum Records (Lissie, The Walkmen, Band of Horses, Heartless Bastards), he has released two albums of powerful transparency into the inner-workings of his very complicated mind, including very literally, The Year of Hibernation in 2011. Listeners can hear the fuzzy layers Powers reigned in with a sort of eerie optimism carried by the instrumentation alongside candid lyrics speaking to psychological dysphoria. This year’s Wondrous Bughouse had the audience prepared to hear more musings of the mind were greeted instead with upbeat, shinier & catchier hooks.
As explained in his official biography, Powers says, “A lot of this record was influenced by a fear of mortality but embracing it at the same time. Realizing that human life is only great because it is temporary. Experimenting with ideas about dimensions. I’m not a gifted speaker, so explaining things is difficult for me. But music always makes sense.”
Don’t miss out on your chance to see him in one of the world’s most magical cities. Enter to win today.

This weekend, the coolest of the cool and the hippest of the hip will gather in Chicago, un-ironically, for the sold out Pitchfork Music Festival. Now in its 7th year, the line-up features as many big names as it does buzzy artists: a diverse, three-day festival during a hot Midwest summer. This is the brainchild of the notoriously taste-making blog, one that often sets the bar of “cool,” for the artists they report on.
If you’re not out in Chicago, you’ll be able to stream several of the performances on Pitchfork’s YouTube page throughout the weekend. Check out albums from 10 of these artists below and get to know the songs so you can sing along loudly in your living room.
